Queering Inclusivity

Mix Media Fiber Crafts installation

This interactive fiber craft installation invites the viewer to engage— through the softness of the quilted pieces, plushies, and embroideries—with the silencing that happens to Queer students in schools. Viewers are prompted to uncover these Queer voices by sitting at the institutionalized white school desk and opening it to uncover a Queer-Quilt to wrap themselves. The quilt is intended to evoke a sense of compassion, care, and empathy for the many Queer students who are silenced/erased/killed by heteronormative schools. The viewer is also invited to engage with the American flag and to uncover both sides of the flag.
